Our Favorite Hike In St John US Virgin Island
Finally, we found our favorite place on St John, and US Virgin Island! We attempted to hike on Rams Head Trail the first time yesterday evening and only made half way through, as we ran out of time before sunset.
We went back again and completed it this morning. Compared to the heavily trafficked beaches in the northern part of the island, this is so much quieter and absolutely a gem.
Located in the southeast tip of the island, the moderate 2.3-mile trail displays different types of sceneries, including:
➡️crescent shaped white sand beach
➡️brown swampy salt pond
➡️cobblestone rock beach
➡️winding nature trail surrounded by cactus
➡️360 degree ocean and beach view on a peninsula
We are not expert hikers, nor are our children. Our toddler fell many times over the last couple of days, including one on a cactus (I’ll save the detail as it’s not a pretty story). Nevertheless he completed the hike mostly on his own. My trick was repeating “let’s throw rocks on the beach”. I wish parenting would be this easy going forward.
Before we came to St John, we didn’t think US Virgin Island was anywhere close to Bahamas, comparing our experience and sceneries. Now after this hike, together with all the stunning views we saw, we were totally mesmerized by St John, and of course US Virgin Island!
