Myanmar day 9

Sunset at U Bein Bridge, Amarapura, Myanmar

This is one of the many beautiful sunsets I’ve seen during travels. I took a long walk over U Bein Bridge in Amarapura, the longest teakwood bridge in the world, built by the mayor U Bein salvaging the unwanted teak columns from the old palace during the move to Mandalay, Myanmar. Although it was only 1.2 km, it took me almost an hour to cross, as I couldn’t stop taking photos of the monks crossing the bridge, and the local fishermen standing in the Taungthaman Lake using the most basic technique to catch fish.

On my way back, I decided to take a boat.  I was right in the middle of the lake when the sun slowly dropped onto people crossing the bridge.  Everyone moving through the sun almost instantly turned into a buddha, with a huge golden glow around… It was really magical and romantic.
