Day 30 – More Geysers at Yellowstone

Norris Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park

Norris Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park

We were too greedy two days ago.  Circling around Yellowstone within one day could be a challenging exercise – the park is simply huge.   We have planned a whole week here so there’s no reason to rush.

We went back to the park from Livingston – one hour drive away from the park entrance (but the whole drive could well take over 2 hours depending on which part of the park you want to visit), and mainly visited the northern part of Yellowstone today in the Norris Geyser Basin area.  This is the hottest area in Yellowstone with plenty of steaming geysers.  Be prepared for a natural sauna!  I was sweating while standing in front of some geysers, so was my camera!

Although I haven’t seen a geyser as colorful as the Grand Prismatic today but a few geysers are still worth photographing, and the following is my ranking

  • Pearl Geyser

  • Steamboat Geyser (it erupted again on July 31, 2013, 8 years after its last eruption)

  • Emerald Spring

  • Cistern Spring
