Old fence on the beach

I was on a 4-day road trip along the coast of Northern California, driving along US highway 1. There were quite some extraordinary scenes – full moon at Mt. Shasta, misty mountain waves at Shasta Trinity National Forest, mighty ocean waves against Wedding Rocks at Patrick’s Point, the drive-through trees at Humboldt Redwoods, etc and etc…

I stopped over at Pt Cabrillo Lighthouse and saw this fence stretching all the way to the ocean. It was pretty run down, and looked as if it would be blown away by the ocean wind at any time. It was nothing extraordinary... Yet for some reason, I found an indescribable beauty from what I saw, and was really glad that I captured the moment.

It was very true when Elliott Erwitt, a great photographer, said:

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It's all about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see, and everything to do with the way you see them.”
