View fullsize Probably one of the most photographed lone trees on this planet.  Even I know it might look like millions already photographed, I still had to do it in my own version this morning to kick off our New Zealand South Island road trip.

View fullsize Apollo caught a virus and missed school for almost two weeks, and somehow we ended up staying home for more than three.

No hikes.  No weekend adventures.  Just slowing down.

Some evenings ago, he asked if I wanted to go out together, so we spent a

Same trail. Same climb.

But this time… with a plan.

After the first hike, I already knew if we timed it right, the light at sunset could completely transform the scene.

So we returned.

We were supposed to do KuliÊ»ouÊ»ou Ridge that day.
But between a wrong turn, muddy trails, and no signal… we lost time and had to regroup.

These are from two forest hikes during spring break:
one at Marymere Falls in Olympic National Park (Washington), the other at Lulumahu Falls on Oʻahu.
