One Week In Wiesbaden and Frankfurt Germany - 9 Best Photo Spots

Germany is a country of innovation and technology, cultural diversity, historic heritage as well as scenic landscapes. Two adjacent cities that offer a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy are Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. I have paid two short visits to these cities with my kids this summer, mainly seeing my husband who was temporarily based there. These two cities didn’t mean to be our travel destinations originally, but we found plenty of photo-worthy spots, and totally enjoyed our stay. So here is my short list of favorites:

Frankfurt

Frankfurt, Germany, is a dynamic financial hub characterized by its iconic skyline featuring modern skyscrapers, juxtaposed with historic landmarks like the Romerberg square and the cathedral. As a cultural metropolis, Frankfurt boasts world-class museums, vibrant festivals, and a diverse culinary scene, making it a compelling destination for both business and leisure travelers.

Romerberg

At the heart of Frankfurt's Old Town, Romerberg is a historic square surrounded by medieval buildings. The iconic Romer, a medieval building with a stepped gable, serves as a captivating focal point. Capture the charm of this square, especially during festivals and events.

Main Tower

The Main Tower in Frankfurt stands as an iconic symbol of the Frankfurt’s modernity, offering a striking panoramic view of the skyline and the surrounding areas from its observation deck.

As one of the tallest buildings in Frankfurt, the Main Tower provides a breathtaking experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the city's architectural prowess and urban landscape.

Eiserner Steg

This historic iron bridge offers a classic view of Frankfurt's skyline. Visit during sunset to capture the city lights coming to life. The bridge itself, adorned with love locks, adds a romantic touch to your photos.

Frankfurt Cathedral

Frankfurt Cathedral, or Frankfurter Dom, is a medieval masterpiece that dominates the city's skyline with its impressive Gothic architecture and towering spires.

Dating back to the 14th century, the cathedral serves as a historic and cultural landmark, inviting visitors to explore its rich religious history and enjoy panoramic views of Frankfurt from its observation platform. Due to time constraint, we didn’t go to the platform.

If I were to visit Frankfurt again and photograph Frankfurt’s skyline during sunset, I’d either go on the top of Frankfurt Cathedral or the Frankfurt main tower.

Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden the state capital of Hesse in Germany, is a spa town renowned for its elegant architecture, thermal springs, and vibrant cultural scene. Nestled in the heart of the Rhine-Main region, Wiesbaden combines historical charm with modern amenities, offering visitors a captivating blend of relaxation, sophistication, and cultural richness. Compared to many other places we visited in Germany, it was a relatively quiet town.

Neroberg

Neroberg in Wiesbaden is a scenic hill that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Rhine River. Known for its peaceful surroundings, Neroberg is not only a popular vantage point but also home to attractions like the Russian Orthodox Church and an idyllic park, making it a delightful destination for both nature lovers and history enthusiasts.

We visited Neroberg several times and undoubtedly it was our favorite place in Wiesbaden. Two places within Neroberg were must-visit for us.

👉 Kletterwald

Apart from the panoramic city view, Kletterwald, an exhilarating adventure park nestled in the scenic surroundings of Neroberg hill particularly stole our kids’ hearts. This treetop climbing park offers visitors an adrenaline-pumping experience with various obstacle courses and zip lines set amidst the lush greenery, providing a thrilling and nature-immersed adventure for both beginners and experienced climbers.

It took our kids 2-3 hours to complete their climb with harness. For safety reasons, adults had to wear harnesses to accompany younger kids and therefore no pictures were taken. Trust me, if there is one place my kids have to talk about Wiesbaden, this must be it.

👉 Chateau Nero

A charming and historic estate that exudes elegance and sophistication. Surrounded by picturesque gardens, this beautiful chateau offers a timeless setting for wine tasting, panoramic view over the hill, or general friends gathering. With its tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, Chateau Nero is a wine bar to enjoy sunset in Wiesbaden. Sadly, there were too many people and we never got a seat, nor a spot to take the sunset photo

Biebrich Palace Schlosspark

Biebrich Palace Schlosspark in Wiesbaden is a stunning blend of Baroque architecture and expansive green landscapes along the banks of the Rhine River.

The palace's magnificent gardens, adorned with fountains and sculptures, create a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls, offering visitors a tranquil escape in the heart of Wiesbaden.

Apart from the peaceful green and beautiful architecture, there was also a nice playground for kids. We only enjoyed it during our first visit and it was closed for renovation during our second visit.

Eiscafé am Rhein

Highly recommended by our airbnb host as the best ice cream place in town, Eiscafé am Rhein didn’t disappoint. It is a charming riverside ice cream cafe, offering delightful frozen treats and a scenic setting along the Rhine River for a perfect blend of sweetness and relaxation.

July 4th German American Friendship Festival

This is not something we have planned but an event by accident. We landed in Frankfurt on July 1 and started our Europe trip here. In order to help kids go through the jet lag, we had to keep them entertained during the day.

We happened to find out a temporary amusement park for the German American Friendship Festival around July 4th. We went two days in a row and had a blast!

I even had the chance to photograph the July 4th fireworks. This was the first time I ever photograph July 4th fireworks out of the US. It was rainy evening, and pointing my camera to the sky to photograph into the rain wasn’t easy, but it was a special event and subject that I didn’t want to miss.

Si restaurant

With its stylish ambiance and a commitment to culinary excellence, Si Restaurant offers a culinary experience that seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary flavors, and provides diners with a sophisticated and delightful gastronomic journey.

Si Restaurant, Wiesbaden

It’s worth to note that every time we came back to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, we tried to relax and recharge from trips to other European countries. We were not ambitious to hit all the top attractions as busy tourists. We have stayed in four airbnbs in different parts of Wiesbaden, and walked a lot in local neighborhoods. It was exactly what we needed.

Nevertheless, if you ever travel to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, you will sure find a delightful mix of historical landmarks, natural beauty, and modern architecture, and get away with a diverse range of photo settings. Grab your camera and explore these best photo spots for an unforgettable visual journey in the not so touristic part of Germany.
