Iconic Galapagos Landscape at Bartolome Island

On day 5 in Galapagos, I went on another boat trip to Bartolome - just to see the iconic Galapagos view.

It's a bit further away so I went by myself. The trip started at 6am. I was picked up by a bus, followed by a 45 minutes ride to the north side of Santa Cruz Island, followed by a 3-hour boat ride.

Since you only get to visit the island during the day there's no chance to photograph it in my favorite hours during sunrise or sunset. Nevertheless, mid-day view is already breathtaking.

Since it was a boat trip, I wanted to minimize the risk of my photography equipment being splashed by ocean water. I had the hard lesson - one of my cameras was killed by that 10 years ago. I also didn’t bother to bring tripod as I knew it was going to be mid-day to photograph the landscape.

In a nutshell, I brought my one camera one lens solution, and a Manfrotto mini-tripod. I typically paired this little tripod with my Canon G7Xii for quick videos. (See my full list of equipment here).

This time, I used it for a series of quick photos that were stitched together in post processing for the above panorama photo. It wasn’t anywhere scientific or precise, but it did get the job done!

As a bonus, I saw penguins (yes wild penguins don't exist only in Antarctica), some unique cactus.

The last time I snorkeled must be over 10 years ago. It was a remarkable experience to rekindle my relationship with the underwater scene. I saw thousands of fish, literally! No underwater camera though!

Similar to the North Seymour boat trip the previous day, there was a kitchen-cooked lunch served on the boat. I got a little bit sea sick on our way back, and spent most of the 3 hours inactive in the boat cabin.

By the time I got back home, it was evening again.

At the kids' request, we went back to the Charles Darwin Station to see the giant tortoises today.

We went back to the Acai Bar right outside the Charles Darwin Station. We were told it’s the only restaurant that makes acai on the island. Acai bowl was my favorite street food while I traveled in Brazil many years ago. How could I miss that?

While I was at the cashier, our two little guys must have done some scavenger hunt and found some toys to entertain themselves.

Did they look like they knew how to play Uno?
