Our First 10 Days In Hawaii
Dec 22
Beach finally!
What can I say, we have two beach boys. The last time we spent more than a few hours at a beach was at least 3 months ago in Galapagos. Our 2 yo probably already forgot the word “beach”, but as soon as we stepped on the beach today, his eyes lit up, immediately. The rest of the story doesn’t need too much description. Simply put, everyone was happy!

If I ask you to finish a sentence starting "my little one is the happiest when he/she is..." what would be your answer? Mine is simple for our 2 yo. Orion is the happiest when he's on the beach. Perhaps he thinks any type of water is the same as the ocean in the tropical weather, aka somewhere he could instantly jump in for maximum entertainment, thus the multiple incidents of puddle jumping, and even icy puddle jumping. Luckily, I can finally take a small break dealing with all the mud on his pants and shoes during Christmas.
We watched a surfing channel on TV the first night in Hawaii, and Apollo claimed his new dream to be a surfer (vs previously astronaut, soccer player, race car driver etc). I asked him how he would surf without a board? He said he would just jump when the big wave arrives like all the surfers do. This is his attempt to show me how he surfs! Creative definition!!!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! From Waikiki Hawaii.
Would you spend your Christmas Eve in an aquarium? Well, it was our first time. I have to be honest, it’s probably the best thing to do after a few days on the beach - we introduced variety!
Our two little ones LOVE fish and aquariums. We have visited quite a few around the world and used to put aquarium on our weekly calendar when we did not travel.
Although the Waikiki Aquarium is small - in fact the smallest we’ve been, and our kids didn’t find their favorite shark and turtle, we had a blast this morning!
We talked about gifts. I tried to buy them new shoes but was adamantly refused, repeatedly. A bubble blower and 3 plastic speedboats were their picks! Oh well I gave in - it is Christmas!

Ever since we visited Mirador Interactive Museum and KidZania in Santiago Chile over 2 months ago, Apollo was no longer interested in kids playground. He insisted visiting Children’s museums everywhere we went. Of course we only could find such museums in big cities. Fortunately there is one in Honolulu as well. We finally visited and the boys had so much fun this morning!

Typically, Apollo is the one running around in the children’s museum. Orion, our 2 yo usually just tags along. I’m so glad to see Orion getting more engaged as we visited more children’s museums.
The Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center we visited yesterday was not big, and probably was the right size for us. We visited all floors, and tried a variety of toys and “discoveries” within 2 hours, and got back just in time for his nap.

Honolulu Zoo was walking distance to our Airbnb. We went there for the first time, and decided to join its membership. We will be in Hawaii for another month, and we know for sure we will come back.
Orion saw his favorite “turtle”. In fact, Galapagos tortoise. What can I say, this boy had a thing for the slow shelled animal.
On the other hand, Apollo was into fish. We were a bit underwhelmed at the size of the Waikiki Aquarium, but the sight of these large fish at the zoo was definitely a nice surprise!
The boys hung out at the fish tank for a long while. It seemed to me that this would be the first, and possibly only, spot for our future visits.
