July 4th Fireworks In the Fog
Photographing July 4th fireworks in San Francisco has become my annual photography tradition for the past 8-9 years. Although it is not my typical landscape photo, I just want to share the foggy fireworks that was kind of special in San Francisco.
Most of the following photos are using the same setting - ISO200, 145mm, f/9, 1.6sec
Equipment used
Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS lens
Gitzo travel tripod
Really Right Stuff BH-40 ballhead
Phottix Aion Wireless Timer and Shutter Release. The timer and shutter release are not essential but my personal preference - I have explained this in this blog

I saw my parents for the first time this July after three years. Ever since their visit, we’ve taken day trips around Olympic Peninsula. As my comfort zone expanded, I planned for a longer trip: a 6-day road trip to Seattle and Mt. Rainier for 5 of us.
After 100+ visits to Olympic National Park over the past 2 years, we finally marked our footprints onto Lake Quinault, the southwest corner of this park, and somehow completed our knowledge and experience of this beautiful place!
We were on another cross country road trip. Here is a small collection of what we saw in the last few days of 2021 and in the beginning of 2022.
Less travel continued to be our theme in 2021. However, we are grateful to be able to mark our footprints onto a few new territories - 8 US national parks in total, the Caribbeans and several short and long road trips.
We made our second trip to Mt Rainier National Park this year, and enjoyed a completely different scenery in a different season. Despite the crowd and the rain, we managed to do 3-4 hikes with our kids, and saw Mt Rainier from a different angle.
We made our first trip to North Cascades National Park over a 3-day weekend. We completed a 4.6-mile Blue Lake hike, the longest hike with our kids, in a 4-hour drizzle, followed by a 3.8-mile hike at Sauk Mountain in the fog. We were completely soaked in the incredible views, and knew for sure we’d come back.
We spent an amazing Labor Day weekend at Mt Baker, Washington. Words can’t describe the incredible sceneries, despite the rain we encountered.
It’s that time of the year again. I’ve started writing our year in review since 2019, and find it a healthy “habit”, even this habit takes me just once a year to practice.
