Discovering the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Xplorer Grip Pro Bundle

Do you own a mirrorless camera but still struggle to capture video the way you want? Perhaps the footage feels shaky unless you bring along a tripod or gimbal, and shooting in 4K and 8K sounds great until you're dealing with stabilization issues, color grading, and hours of unedited footage sitting on your hard drive.

What if a compact bundle could solve that problem while offering creative features your mirrorless camera simply can't?

As someone who’s been photographing for over 20 years, I primarily shoot with my Canon R5 and Sony A7 IV. But when it comes to video, I've avoided carrying a gimbal for years, and I don't always have time to set up a tripod for fast-moving travel scenes and candid moments. Heavy video editing beyond my YouTube channel often gets pushed back.

Today I’ll share my real-world experience with a new compact camera I recently got: Insta360 Ace Pro 2 with its new Xplorer Grip Pro bundle accessories — the pros, the limitations, and who this system is for, and which accessories are actually worth investing in.

Pros

1. Exploring the Grip: A Game Changer

The first thing that intrigued me about this camera bundle was the Xplorer Grip Pro. Unlike traditional action cams, which are often designed to be mounted on a bike or helmet, the Xplorer Grip Pro offers a proper shutter button, a balanced grip, and a form factor that feels much closer to a real mirrorless camera, yet it remains incredibly compact, even smaller than my phone. This changes how you use it entirely.

After just a few days of practicing with the settings, I embarked on a trip to Maui, Hawaii, and ended up shooting the entire trip with this camera, rain or shine (check out our 5-Day Maui Itinerary and the video footages from Insta360 Ace Pro 2). The experience was so smooth that since then, I've been carrying it every day simply because I love how it feels like a real camera. If ergonomics and shooting habits matter to you, the grip is what truly sets this system apart from the typical action cams.

2. Portability and Accessibility

The camera itself fits comfortably in my pocket, alongside accessories like three extra lenses, an extra battery, a lens cleaning brush, and a mic cover for underwater use, all fitting into a small pouch roughly the size of my phone.

The entire external mic system fits neatly into a compact case.

Adding a mini tripod makes the whole bundle small enough to fit comfortably inside my crossbody PGY Tech Rope Bag, with plenty of room left over.

This ease of portability has changed my approach to documenting moments, enabling me to capture life on the go without extensive planning.

3. Simplifying Video Production

With mirrorless cameras, high-quality video usually implies shooting in log, which also involves color grading larger files and spending more time in post-production. This camera eliminates that hassle.

When I received the camera, I was keen on shooting in iLog but soon realized that with the built-in color profiles, I could bypass log entirely in most situations.

In my Maui short film, over 90% of the footage came straight off the camera with no color grading needed, making project completion more feasible. One standout feature is the ability to sync clips to the cloud and organize them through Insta Studio on desktop or the Insta 360 mobile app. This system feels simpler and more streamlined, which can significantly reduce the workflow friction that often discourages video making.

4. Durability & Weather Resistance

I've tested this setup in various conditions—rain, snorkeling trips, whale-watching boat rides, and bumpy ATV jungle drives. The fact that it's waterproof up to 12 meters adds a layer of versatility that most compact video cameras lack. If you travel in unpredictable weather or near water, this is a distinct advantage.

5. Innovative Features that Add Joy

Several features make this setup user-friendly and creatively liberating.

👉 Face Priority mode is surprisingly useful for vlogging. It subtly brightens and smooths skin. As someone who doesn’t naturally vlog, this makes me more comfortable being on camera.

👉 Gesture control saved me when I lost my shutter button. I could easily start and stop the video my raising my hand.

👉 The built-in mic with wind guard performed really well, even in high wind conditions on coastal walks, boat or ATV rids. I didn’t feel the need to attach an external mic.

👉 Double-click zoom is incredibly fast and convenient.

👉 And the built-in 2.35:1 ratio for both photo and video simply makes everything more cinematic.

Cons

1. Image Quality and Style

The Ace Pro 2 uses a smaller sensor compared to full-frame or APS-C mirrorless cameras, impacting low-light performance.

Also, the focus is more on a wide depth of field over shallow focus, affecting certain creative choices.

2. Shutter Lag for Decisive Moments

There’s a slight delay when pressing the shutter — which can mean missed moments for sports, street, or fast-moving subjects like kids or animals.

That’s one reason I use this primarily for video rather than candid, documentary style photography.

3. Small Parts & Small Screen Trade-Off

Because the system is compact and modular, small parts can be easy to misplace. I lost a mic insert and a shutter button when slipping it into tight pockets.

Adjusting settings on a small screen also takes some practice. That’s the trade-off for portability. You gain size and convenience, and give up some physical control space.

Who Is This For?

This setup is ideal for:

👉 photo or video enthusiasts who desire a lighter, easier way to document travel, family life, or everyday moments without complicated setups.

👉 hobbyists who want to complete video projects efficiently

👉 vloggers who’ll benefit from the face priority mode and built-in audio, and

👉 smartphone users yearning for a step up in stabilization and creative control.

In summary, this bundle isn't about replacing a mirrorless camera but offers a different kind of creative experience—small, lightweight, and easy to use, producing footage that looks good straight from the camera.

It encourages more documentation of life, not just epic trips, making you more inclined to press record and share your projects.
